Is Fedora a community? ›

The Fedora Project is a community of people working together to build a free and open source software platform and to collaborate on and share user-focused solutions built on that platform. Or, in plain English, we make an operating system and we make it easy for you to do useful stuff with it.

Fedora is free to copy, modify, and redistribute without any cost or license fees. All of the code in Fedora and all of the tools used to build Fedora are free and open source software.

Fedora, like other Linux distributions, allows you to learn as you use the system. At first, you can do anything you need from a graphical interface. Then, as you learn and experiment, you may find that some processes you do, like daily work activities, are quicker to do in the terminal.

Fedora's mission statement is: "Fedora is about the rapid progress of Free and Open Source software." Linus Torvalds, author of the Linux kernel, says he uses Fedora because it had fairly good support for PowerPC when he used that processor architecture. He became used to the operating system and continues to use it.

It is a reliable and stable Linux distro that won't let down beginners or advanced users. The installation process is simple, and the pre-set apps are more than enough to get started. The reason why we can't put the finger on Fedora is that its workstation version is robust and nothing more.
